Psychosexual Somatics® Therapy (PST) is a trauma-aware, therapeutic coaching modality to support with the emotional, attachment and relational issues we may encounter at various stages of out lives.

The foundational approach is to support you to re:connect and restore your relationship with yourself, others and the natural world. Through simultaneously combining mental, emotional and physical aspects of your human experience, rapid transformational growth and healing can occur.

By re-regulating your nervous system and addressing childhood attachment issues or conditioning, you can quickly reach clarity on the root of your presenting difficulties and then take embodied action to underpin lasting shifts in your lived experience.

how does it work?

One of the first things we do is learn to slow down and how to feel.

Many of us have learned to spend the majority of our time in our heads. I get it, we live in a mind-dominant culture, we have fast-paced lives and our minds develop creative ways of keeping us alive. However, spending all of our time up there, means we lose touch with how to feel and be in our bodies. It is through the slowing down, and practicing presence that we can begin to unpack our experiences and reach clarity and resolution. The thing is, for some of us it can feel really unfamiliar, uncomfortable and sometimes even scary, which is why we have people like me that hold the space and guide - so you don’t have to go at it alone.

Rather than reinforcing the unhealthy patterns and feeling increasingly disheartened or like our light is dimming fast, we can begin to carve a new, truer reality for ourselves. One that is rooted in the ‘here and now’, firmly in reality and begin to rewrite how we think about ourselves and our experiences. We also discover the answers we need to move us forward into something more fulfilling, healthy and empowered.

We do this by regulating our nervous system whilst addressing childhood attachment issues, by combining a cognitive understanding of the emotional root causes underneath the presenting difficulty, alongside embodied practices and somatic awareness.

Coaching & Guidance

Cognitive awareness is the first step to empowerment. By understanding how and why we avoid intimacy we can begin to make different choices that support greater connection, intimacy and pleasure. PST offers a clear roadmap to understanding intimacy issues and helps you move through any blocks to a greater capacity for connection. PST is a powerful combination of coaching (forward-looking, accessing your potential) and guidance (understanding how we came to be as we are) which allows for rapid growth and transformation.


Neuro-Regulation

PST believes that almost all intimacy issues require a re-regulation of the autonomic nervous system. As a practitioner, I was taught an understanding of the role of the nervous system and trauma in our capacity for presence, connection and arousal. By supporting you to learn your own nervous system state and how to regulate yourself, you can create new neural pathways.


Somatic Mindfulness

PST applies somatic (embodied) mindfulness to help increase your awareness of limiting beliefs and how they manifest in the body. When we are connected with our thoughts, feelings and physical sensations we can remain present in intimacy and do not enter dissociated states or familiar patterns of avoidant behaviours. Mindfulness also contributes to creating a positive neurological state.


Embodiment Techniques

PST focuses strongly on awareness of the felt experience in the moment. By dropping into the body and allowing its wisdom to express and be seen, we become more connected to ourselves and therefore also to others.  Using embodiment techniques supports us to know the truth of our experience and move out of stuckness.  By becoming aware of physical sensations and any associated emotional responses we can begin to integrate body and mind into a more cohesive whole which creates a stronger sense of selfhood.


The Relational Field

PST holds that all sexual issues are actually intimacy issues.  At their heart is an avoidance of connection with yourself and others. By working with what comes up in the room between practitioner and client, PST is able to offer deep insights into your relational patterns.

what does a session look like?

We will always start with an intake session, which will involve talking through your challenges, goals, and patterns. We’ll explore the strategies you’ve developed to keep yourself safe, including where they may have originated from, to understand how they may be keeping you in disconnection now.

Subsequent sessions are informed by the intake, and the pace you want to work at. They may include:

A grounding in and check in a the beginning.

Cognitive Understanding: Involves talking through certain topics or experiences to reach clarity and understanding. I may ask questions, invite you to go deeper or offer reflections that may be useful for you.

Inner-Parts Work: Held and guided conversations or exercises with inner-parts of you, which often hold the key to deeper understanding and resolution. This also supports any re-parenting or inner-child work that supports re:connection and restoration.

Body dialogue and Somatic awareness: Guiding you through noticing sensations in the body, and giving time and space to feel what arises.

Embodiment Exercises and Somatic Guidance: Using posture, movement and sound to allow expressions that may be habitually suppressed. Guided inner-journeys of self-discovery and expression.

Movement exercises: Using gentle movement as an effective way to support your nervous system..

Guided Meditations: Slowing everything down, cultivating presence to invite in space for deeper connection to self and whatever may wish to emerge.

Whichever is best suited for you, the emphasis is always on your pace, your needs and supporting you to develop tools and resources to create lasting change and positive impact for you. You will meet edges in sessions, and going gently means we can meet them in a way that feels doable for you.

ONLINE SESSIONS

In-person sessions are available in Derby, Midlands UK. These are priced on a sliding scale of £65, £75 and £85 GBP per hour to cover room rental.

You choose what to pay based on what you can afford. Sessions are fortnightly (every 2 weeks) or even monthly if this supports affordability.

You can pay as you go, or purchase these in blocks of 6 to support your journey. This work typically spans 3 to 12 months depending on your needs and desired outcomes.

in-person SESSIONS

the 4 hr chrysalis experience

For those who prefer a deeper-dive experience because they have a focused topic to work on, this fits their way of rolling in life or prefer in-person work and are travelling from further a field and want to condense sessions.

The Chrysalis is a 4 hour Session including all the PST components, except we will blend this into a format that spans 4 hours.

This includes a grounding into the space together, discussing your topic and positive outcome, gathering information, and then using the time to curiously explore together through different aspects of PST. This session will include 3 breaks, digesting what you have discovered, and then moving into action planning for your next steps.

  • Full Payment of the session is required before the session.

    Online sessions are on zoom and can include a recording of the session if this would serve you, including any resources that are relevant to what came up in your session to support your integration.

    The first session is the intake session and thereafter sessions are every two weeks. The following session can be booked at the end of the last session to support your availability. Having a regular slot is also welcome. Once sessions begin we will regularly review how things are going for you.

    It is possible to reschedule with 48 hours notice. If you do not turn up to the call, Kalia will wait 10 minutes before closing the zoom container and it is at her discretion whether a reschedule will be offered for the remaining 50 minutes.

    Sessions are rolling, meaning that you book as and when you need them, although it is recommended that you book a package or are committed to a journey of around 3 to 12 months to create sustained change. This is dependent on your needs and your experience.

  • The intake session is where we begin. It is the first session and is there for information to be shared and gathering that supports the direction and holding of the mentorship.

    We explore your desired outcome for the work we do together.

    We explore the present: Relationships, including how intimacy is, sexuality, family, work/training

    And then we focus on the past in order to guide the future.

    Previous life: Relationships, previous sexual experiences/learnings, family upbringing/childhood, challenges or significant events

    General Information: Previous therapy or coaching/self-development, medical history, mental health status, sleep, body, health, stress, support/networks

  • Kalia is trained to hold and guide the activation we meet when exploring sensitive topics or edges in our growth and development. Kalia has training in trauma-awareness and is a nervous system aware practitioner and is able to guide people with activation or discomfort in sessions, however, for transformation to occur, you need to have a level of emotional stability. PST is not suitable to support those with active trauma or requiring trauma resolution. Please consult a trauma resolution therapists if this is what you are seeking. If you need support with signposting, please let Kalia know and she can offer some options for you to consider.

  • Kalia is a trauma-aware certified Psychosexual Somatics® Therapy Coach. She has completed the Heal Thyself program with Brig Feltus - which is a Diversity Intensive for Coaches racialised as white. Kalia completed Trauma Awareness Training for Practitioners with Catherine Hale and also completed Group Facilitation Training with Embodied Relational Therapy. Kalia recently completed an MSc in Psychology, and has a BA (Hons) in Social Work. Kalia is also a qualified University Lecturer (PGCE, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy). Kalia has 14 years of experience working with complex family systems and trauma, as well as 19 years of personal and spiritual development, including long-term Psychotherapy, Coaching, Shadow Work, Conscious Sexuality and Meditation.
